If you are tired of dentures, talk Westwood Family Dental. If you are a good candidate, our dentists will be able to start you on an implant program where you could be enjoying brand new teeth in less than a year. Good implant candidates are people who are in good health, have healthy gums and proper bone structure. If you smoke have systemic diseases such as diabetes, or suffer from bruxism or clenching, implant success rates dramatically decrease.

Implants are actually artificial teeth that are surgically anchored inside your jawbone in order to hold a bridge or replacement tooth in place. One of the many benefits of implants is that neighboring teeth are not relied upon for support. Unlike dentures, implants are stable and permanent. Implants look and feel like your real teeth.

Implant materials are made from bone like ceramic and metallic. These materials are compatible with your body tissue.

According to the ADA, or the American Dental Association, there are two different types of implants that are considered safe.

Endosteal Implants are surgically implanted or placed into your jawbone. After the gum tissue surrounding the implants has healed, our dentists will schedule a second surgery in order to connect posts to the original implants. The final step in the process is the attachment of artificial teeth to the post either grouped together on a denture or bridge, or individually.

Subperiosteal Implants are made up of a metal frame that will fit on to your jawbone that sits below your gum tissues. As your gums begin to heal, the frame will become fixed directly to your jawbone. The posts are already attached to the frame and grow through your gums. Just like endosteal implants, your new artificial teeth will be mounted to your posts.

Westwood Family Dental can use implants to permanently support a bridge eliminating the need for dentures. The cost of implants is greater, but bridges and implants look more natural than dentures.
